Best Cocktail Bars in NYC
Lets face it. This is New York. And everywhere you turn, there is a new bar or restaurant popping up. How do you know where to go?
If there is one thing I am a fan of, it is a well made craft cocktail. Or a unique one. I like bells and whistles, I like fire. Sometimes, its more about the experience than the cocktail itself, but when both are paired together, its magical. Here are some of my favorite places, in no particular order, and in no particular area. Prices range from $ to $$$$, and there is something for everyone to check out. Happy hunting, and let me know where some of your favorites are!

The lush couches, gorgeous views, and accessible area make this the perfect spot to come and people watch. Make sure you make a reservation, and ask for one of their seating areas. Their cocktail list is extensive, and each one is more beautiful than the next. With both indoor and outdoor space, breathtaking views, and delectable small plates menu, this is definitely a must try on the rooftop list!
11 W 31st St
MAYBE I am a little biased here, because back in the day I used to be a server here, but, I can’t have a cocktail list and not list their martini. Probably one of the best chocolate martinis in the city, they come in multiple flavors, and garnished with chocolate shavings. The best part? Each also comes paired with a complimentary truffle, designed to pair with your cocktail. Not to mention this cute little spot is perfect for a girls night out (chocolate covered strawberries and chocoalte shots anyone?) or date night. It isn’t called a wine and chocolate bar for nothing. Do yourself a favor and taste one of these. You won’t be disappointed.
While We Were Young
183 W 10th St
Considered one of the more instagrammable bars in the West Village, the aesthetics in this place are truly top notch. While it is SMALL (about 6 tables total and a dozen bar stools) it is well worth stopping by for a cocktail. Their beautiful decor (the pink velvet couches are representative of the colored sand in the Bahamans) and the light airy decor make you wish you were under a palm tree. Their cocktail list is heavy on unique ingredients and pairings, and every single one of their cocktails is simply beautiful. ALMOST too pretty to drink. Notice I said almost.
80 Columbus Circle
If you are looking for a fancy night out, and okay with dropping some big bucks, The Aviary in the Mandarin Oriental is a MUST try. Based off of Grant Achatz Alinea in Chicago, I was beyond thrilled when he opened in NYC. The best way to describe it? An experience. If you are familiar with molecular gastronomy and food, this you need to be here. The drinks are out of this world, and although they come with a hefty price tag, they are well worth it. They have several choices in terms of a la carte dining or re fixe menu options, and besides, overlooking Central Park is also pretty fantastic. Probably one of the best cocktails I have had here in the city.
9 Doyers St.
I’m giving away a little secret, as this is probably one of my favorite speakeasies in the city. If you can find it (although the long line is usually a dead giveaway) this bar is pretty outstanding. Their menu is based on medicinal remedies, and is inspired by the rise of the apothecary in Europe. The presentation is just as exciting as the drinks themselves, and it is set up as a chemical lab, in which the bartenders all wear lab coats. If you can snag a table, this is one place you’ll love to hang, as trying to get through their menu can be tricky!
